Why We Like It
Because the tendency to slice doesn’t necessarily go away when switching to a fairway wood, this model has features to minimize that weak fade. Heel-side weighting adds draw spin and helps players square the face at impact. The SFT heads are a little larger, feature an extra degree of loft, use more upright lie angles and are a little lighter compared to the G430 Max. Those elements help shots launch higher and straighter.
Characteristics
- Designed to fight a slice with heel-side weighting, more upright lie angle and lighter total weight.
- Should launch the ball higher and with more spin than the G430 Max thanks to 1-degree higher lofts.
- Lower half of the face has less “roll” so that shots launch with less spin and more ball speed.
- 16, 19, 22 degrees (with an eight-way adjustable hosel)
Highlights
- Top 5 highest-flying fairway woods, high-handicaps

Reviews
I like the shallow face. The geometry of the crown seems to give the illusion that the clubhead is bigger than it really is. The footprint is compact, but visually it looks larger. Kind of like in Looney Tunes when they peek inside the tent and it's a palace. An outstanding achievement in design. Wonderfully soft sound at impact—almost whispering off the face. I really appreciated the forgiveness with the workability. If I tried to hit it straight but mis-hit it, it still went the proper distance with a little bit off line. And if I put a good swing on it, it was easy to shape it.
Wei, 54, Handicap: 13Good-looking club. Strike is a clean, springy sound and feel. High trajectory. Straight and consistent distance even on mis-hits.
David, 56, Handicap: 13Swing Your Fairway Wood with Confidence
One of the more difficult shots amateurs face is the long approach that requires a fairway wood. Most players aren’t confident hitting a 3-wood off the ground, and they don’t practice the shot enough to build confidence. In this video, Jason Birnbaum shares his best confidence-building techniques and tips on how to make a solid contact with these long clubs.
