Wyndham Clark on 'CussGate' and the Olympics narrative that made no sense to him
Vaughn Ridley
Wyndham Clark was not calling Tom Kim a liar, but he believes the only "cursing" going on at the Presidents Cup last month was between the American players themselves.
Following Saturday's testy afternoon session, though, Kim sai he felt certain American players were directing curse words at him. His caddie, Paul Tesori, doubled down on that, telling SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio's Frank Darby and Brian Crowell this past Sunday that some members of the U.S. team "emphatically got personal" with Kim at Royal Montreal.
While Kim nor Tesori named names, some folks on social media had assumed that Clark had to be involved. Clark was out following the Tom Kim/Si Woo Kim vs. Patrick Cantlay/Xander Schauffele match, and could later be seen in a video clip doing the "night night" celebration after the American side won the match, a call back to Si Woo Kim's Stephen Curry-inspired celebration earlier in the match, which was still tied at the time.
Up until Tuesday, we had not heard Clark's perspective on "CussGate." Fortunately for us, he joined this week's The Loop podcast as our guest, and we got to ask him point blank what happened. His full, lengthy answer can be viewed below:
If you're going to dish it, you've got to be able to take it, too. Fair is fair.
In addition to CussGate, Clark also assessed what he believes was an underrated 2024 for himself coming off a breakout year in 2023. The former U.S. Open champion also revealed what he'll be doing this off-season, looked ahead to 2025 and told us the Olympics narrative that made no sense to him. We think you'll enjoy the full chat below. And please, like and subscribe to The Loop wherever you get your podcasts.
