If you haven’t considered visiting Iceland for golf, you wouldn't be alone—but you’re also missing out. Where else in the world can you tee off at midnight and have complete sunlight?

During summer months, Midnight Sun allows golfers to tee off at seemingly any time of the day—it won't set for weeks at a time. The season is short for Iceland’s population of just under 400,000, equivalent to about half the people who live in Alaska. But about 10 percent of Icelanders are said to play golf, mostly due to the fact that you can find a course in nearly every village. Iceland has 65 courses, 50 of which are nine holes but many of the courses sit along the coastline, creating epic journeys. Though golf in Iceland is different than any other European golf trip, it’s one worth considering.

Discover the best golf courses in Iceland below—to go firmly on your bucket list.

We urge you to click through to each individual course page for bonus photography, drone footage and expanded reviews. Plus, you can now leave your own ratings on the courses you’ve played … to make your case why your favorite should be ranked higher.

    5. Golfklúbbur Vestmannaeyja
    Torfmýrarvegur , Vestmannaeyjar , Iceland
Vestmannaeyjar Golf Club is one of the most unique settings in the golf world—built within flat lands below an old volcano on Westman Islands, about a 40-minute ferry ride from the mainland. Westman Islands Golf Club is the third-oldest club in Iceland, though it expanded to 18 holes in 1992. Holes are designed either running down to the water or up toward the volcano—creating some incredible vistas the entire round.

    4. Reykjavik G.C. (Grafarholt)
    Korpulfsstadir , Reykjavik, Iceland
Reykjavik Golf Club is Iceland’s oldest club, though the city forced a move out of city limits in the 1963 into a more barren area east of the city. The Grafarholt course was completed in 1968 and with the boom in popularity in golf in Iceland, Reykjavik Golf Club built a second course in the 1990s. Reykjavik is an incredibly popular club with more than 2,500 members, and Grafarholt is a popular spot in the country to host tournaments.

    2. Keilir Golf Club
    Hafnarfjordur, Reykjavik, Iceland
Keilir Golf Course’s links-like front nine meanders through ancient lava flow along the water before heading out to former farmland along a peninsula for the back nine, which includes clifftop holes but others that meander up into higher settings with blind shots. Located in Hafnarfjordur, 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavik, the course is one of Iceland’s most popular.

    1. Brautarholt Golf Club
    Kjalarnes , Reykjavik, Iceland
Though Golf Digest traditionally ranks only 18-hole courses, Iceland is a land of nine-holers. Brautarholt actually boasts 12 holes with a design planned by Icelandic designer Edwin Roald and built by American shaper Michael Kelly, with some help with local crews. The layout tumbles down beautifully rolling terrain along the clifftop shores, making for dramatic vistas and fun holes. Work is underway on Brautarholt building six additional holes, with the goal of opening up the expanded course in the summer of 2025. The club also aims to do additional work, modifying the seventh hole, changing the 10th, and adding additional length by building new tee boxes to expand the layout to over 6,500 yards.
